TwinBee Returns (ツインビーりたーんず TsuinBī Rita ̄ nzu) is a "boss rush" minigame that can be unlocked in Konami's 1994 PC Engine CD dating sim game Tokimeki Memorial. It is a short game that is heavily inspired by the original TwinBee.
Overview[]
TwinBee Returns is an unlockable minigame in Tokimeki Memorial that is heavily inspired by the original TwinBee arcade video game from 1985. The game is aesthetically very similar and shares a similar music score; however, it isn't a direct port, but rather a simplified remake. In order to unlock it, the player must join the computer club and by the third year, around October, a school culture festival will take place where the player can talk to Shiori Fujisaki and play the game.
Gameplay[]
Unlike the original TwinBee video game, in TwinBee Returns there are very few enemies to fend off between levels, and in most cases the levels entirely lack airborne enemies, with the only opposition presented by a few ground enemies that can only be taken out with bombs. Most of the levels mainly focus on the player shooting at harmless clouds to uncover Bell power-ups to increase their armament and score.
The environment also differs from the original game, where here all the levels reuse the same layout of the original game's second stage.
The game mainly acts as a "boss rush" of sorts, where the levels are remarkably short and the main focus is to defeat all the bosses from the original TwinBee game:
Once all bosses have been defeated, the player gets to record their initials if they got a high score and then they return to the main game.
